                         Commission Procedures

Subjects:

Children and adults, animals, still life, landscape.

Format/Size:

Head and shoulder portraits generally are 16" X 20", although they can be slightly smaller or larger. Naturally, 3/4 or full length poses will have greater dimensions.  Dimensions for landscapes or still life are negotiable.

Media:

While most clients prefer portraits to be completed in oil, the option of pieces rendered in graphite (pencil) or charcoal is offered.

Sittings:

Due to the lengthy time required to pose for portraits, I will take photographs of the subject(s) to use as a reference.  This photographic session generally takes 1 - 3 hours, in a setting to be discussed with the client.

Pricing:

Commission fees will be negotiated with clients on an individual basis, due to the variability of requests regarding the size, medium, pose, number of figures, and background to be included.  Send me an email using the contact address on this site.

Timing:

The time required to complete a commission varies considerably.  Factors to be considered include the media to be used (graphite or charcoal are much faster than oil), and my roster of previously requested commissions.  A general guideline is two months for a graphite or charcoal portrait, and several months to one year for an oil portrait (due to the techniques employed in completing an oil portrait, as well as the extensive drying and varnishing time required).

Payment:

Once an agreement has been reached regarding a commission, and a contract is signed, a deposit of 30% of the estimated final cost is required.  The remainder is payable upon delivery of the completed item.

*Please note that any applicable taxes, framing, shipping (if needed) and insurance are the responsibility of the client.
